Contemporary sociological theories (2020-2021 Fall term)

In this course contemporary sociological theories and theorists will be discussed. In the first week previous courses on sociological theory will be reviewed and syllabus will be introduced.

2 . Week Bourdieu: Sociology as social analysis; logic of fields Habitus, Illusio and Reason; Symbolic Violence

3 . Week Habermas: Decoupling of lifeworld and systems, material reproduction and symbolic reproduction, colonizationof life world, psychopatolojies

4 . Week Bauman: rise and fall of labour, local orders, global chaos

5 . Week Wallerstein: World System Analysis and The End of the world as We Know it

6 . Week Erik Olin Wright: Comparative Class analyses and realistic utopias

7 . Week Giddens: Structuration, duality of structulre, stratified agent, significaltion and domination sturcutres

8 . Week Discussion on contemporary sociological theories and evaluation of progress of learning
